It looks like York County could receive its first decent snowfall of the season after all.
Forecasters are calling for up to 6 inches when this storm is expected to roll through Tuesday into Wednesday. It will not be like the other small storms this winter that have delivered flurries or an inch of snow.
So how should drivers prepare?
Wayne Harper, director of the Center for Traffic Safety, offered some tips Monday.
The first question to ask yourself is: Do you need to make the trip?
Don’t drive unless you have to, he said.
If you do have to go out, here’s how to get ready:
- Make sure your car has an emergency kit.
- Make sure to clean the snow off your vehicle before you drive. You could be held criminally liable if snow or ice flies off your vehicle and injures or kills another driver.
- Travel the snow emergency routes. Those roads are the first ones plowed and the ones plowed most often.
- Drive slow and deliberately. Don’t make sudden moves.
- Increase the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
- Be aware of other vehicles around you. Make sure everyone else can stop
- Avoid distractions.
